Little Voices: Back to School Super Quiz!

This weeks episode is a little unusual! Instead of interviewing one person, I chat with a wonderful group of children! The Back to school Super Quiz is so helpful for kids to listen to as it will make them giggle and remind them how fun school can be! Whether its your child’s first day of school, or they are a seasoned pro, this episode will help get them motivated to be reunited with friends and teachers!  I ask about a dozen kids the following questions:
  • Are you excited about going back to school?
  • What is your favourite thing about school??
  • What is your favourite subject?
  • What makes a good teacher?
  • What makes a bad teacher?
  • What would your dream teacher be like?
  • What do you want to be when you grow up?
I think the teachers of you out there will get great giggles from some of the answers!! You never know, you may even be inspired to take on some of the feedback!!

Back to School Preparation for Parents

The gentlest way to prepare your child for that first week back in the classroom is to start practicing school day routines now.  If it’s your child’s first day, you could even do a little drive by so that there are no surprises for your child!  Focus on bedtime routine and subtly moving it back in line with school day timetables which may even mean waking them up at a consistent time!

Speaker 0 00:00:00 Over the summer. We've all gotten used to nice chilled out routines. Lots of kids will have been sleeping in, in the morning. Lucky parents, other kids have just loved the freedom of eating when they want to eat and playing when they want to play. It's. Now that time of year where routines change and we get organized for going back to school. Some kids are so excited to go back to school, but some kids might not be quite as enthusiastic. So myself and my willing group of volunteers have decided to put together an episode for the kids and their parents to help to remind them what is good about school. In this episode, I talk to a wonderful group of children. And by asking questions in our SuperDuper back to school quiz, we find out why they're excited about going to school. What their favorite about school is. Speaker 0 00:01:03 We find out what makes a good teacher. We also get to hear what they think makes a bad teacher. So teachers, I hope you're listening. I think it's always good for the teachers to have anonymous feedback. You know, let them just hear it, how it really is. School has its ups and downs. But from what you'll hear in this episode, there's a lot more ups than there are downs. And there is a lot of giggles to be had. So sit back, relax and enjoy this episode. I know it was one of my favorite episodes to record. I don't think I've ever giggled so much. Disclaimer. If anyone tries to blame the naughty answers on my children, of course I will deny all knowledge. The participants remain completely anonymous for very good reason. As you'll soon, find out, enjoy. If you enjoy listening to a wonder wrap podcast, I'd be really grateful. If you could follow or subscribe and leave a review, it really helps to support the show. Thank you. Are you excited about going back to school? Speaker 1 00:02:19 No, it's boring. Speaker 0 00:02:22 I don't think your teachers would think it's boring. Speaker 1 00:02:24 Well, of course they don't. <laugh> yes, I am. Why? See my friends. Yeah. Speaker 0 00:02:34 Why? Speaker 1 00:02:35 Because like there won't be some new kids, Speaker 2 00:02:39 So I'm very excited to go back to school because I can see my friends again and learn more stuff. Speaker 1 00:02:46 Yes. Because I can see all my friends. Speaker 0 00:02:48 Have you missed them over the summer? Speaker 1 00:02:50 Kind of <laugh> Speaker 0 00:02:51 You've seen some of them Speaker 1 00:02:52 Though. Yeah. Yes. Speaker 0 00:02:55 Why? Speaker 1 00:02:56 Because they get to see all my friends. Speaker 0 00:02:59 Yes. That's a very good reason. Speaker 1 00:03:02 Yes. Speaker 0 00:03:02 Why? Speaker 1 00:03:04 Because like, I love seeing my friends and then I'll get to see my friends. When I go back to school, I've seen a lot of my friends at summer camp. Speaker 3 00:03:13 Yes and no, I'm not looking to because I don't like homework, but I'm looking for just seeing and my new teacher and all my friends again. So Speaker 1 00:03:23 I am. Speaker 0 00:03:24 And why Speaker 1 00:03:25 I'm excited to see my friends again and to see how my teachers will act. Speaker 3 00:03:32 Yes. Speaker 0 00:03:33 And why? Because Speaker 3 00:03:35 I get to see my friends and my new. Speaker 0 00:03:38 And what's your favorite thing about school? Speaker 1 00:03:41 Lunchtime. Speaker 0 00:03:42 <laugh> okay. Speaker 1 00:03:45 Home time. <laugh> Speaker 2 00:03:49 That you're able to hang out your friends and that you get to learn more information. Speaker 0 00:03:54 Yes. Do you like learning? Speaker 1 00:03:56 Yeah. I love learning Speaker 0 00:03:57 Me too. I think you'll always be learning, not just at school. Speaker 1 00:04:01 Playing Speaker 0 00:04:02 With my friends. What's your favorite game to play? I'm not sure. All of the games. Speaker 1 00:04:06 Yeah. Um, my favorite thing would probably be seeing my teacher and seeing my friends and having lots of fun Speaker 0 00:04:14 Because that is what happens at school. Yeah. It's like a giant play date. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:04:20 Um, doing maths. Speaker 0 00:04:23 Maths? Yes. Do you love maths? Yes. Are you good at maths? Yes. Is that why you love maths? Yes <laugh>. So I think I might know the answer to this question already, but what's your favorite subject? Maths. <laugh> Speaker 1 00:04:38 My favorite thing is that we're all gonna get to get our friendship back together and then we're all just gonna have fun. Speaker 0 00:04:46 So definitely. It's your friends that are your favorite part? Not the learning. Is that what I'm gathering? Speaker 1 00:04:52 Kind of Speaker 0 00:04:53 <laugh> yeah, Speaker 3 00:04:56 Probably yard time. I go out to the sunny weather with my friends, or if it's raining on big bridge, I guess to, uh, watch three, nine online. There's also something called kids news, but that was in fourth class. I like lunch time. Speaker 0 00:05:15 <laugh> wash is your favorite subject school? Speaker 1 00:05:21 What even does soup Jack Speaker 0 00:05:22 Mean? Like English, Irish. Math. Speaker 1 00:05:26 Oh, P Speaker 0 00:05:28 <laugh>? No <laugh> P E Speaker 1 00:05:36 Oh PE Speaker 0 00:05:37 PE. What's your favorite subject? P <laugh>. We're not gonna get past this. Are we English? Why? Because Speaker 1 00:05:51 I'm so good at it. Speaker 0 00:05:52 Good reason. Are you good at maths? Speaker 4 00:05:57 I like it Speaker 1 00:05:59 Irish. Speaker 0 00:06:00 Oh, why Irish? Speaker 1 00:06:01 Because I'm really good at it. Speaker 0 00:06:02 And that's a good reason Speaker 1 00:06:05 And maths. Speaker 0 00:06:08 Oh my goodness. Yeah. I don't think I was very good at maths. Speaker 1 00:06:11 My second favorite subject would probably be at Speaker 0 00:06:16 Art. Yeah. I loved art too. What's your favorite kind of art? Speaker 1 00:06:20 Um, painting. Speaker 0 00:06:22 Is it cuz it's really messy. Speaker 1 00:06:24 No, because like I paint and draw all the time at home. Speaker 0 00:06:28 Well, practice makes perfect. Speaker 1 00:06:29 Yeah. Mm-hmm Speaker 4 00:06:30 <affirmative> Speaker 2 00:06:31 I like maths because it's interesting. And you use it in your everyday life when you don't even realize Speaker 4 00:06:39 Math. Speaker 0 00:06:40 You like maths. The most Speaker 4 00:06:42 Mm-hmm <affirmative> Speaker 3 00:06:43 Art is history. Like I love art a lot, but history is like, Speaker 0 00:06:49 Wow. So you like learning about how life used to be? Speaker 3 00:06:53 Yeah. In the often days it's just at school. Although when I'm here, my grad letter would actually tell me in their days that, um, they used to got like rich on the hand for getting in question wrong. Speaker 0 00:07:08 Oh my goodness. That did not sound nice. Speaker 1 00:07:12 My favorite subject is probably math, cuz it's gonna be very easy for me. Speaker 0 00:07:17 Ooh. Are you very good at maths? Speaker 1 00:07:19 I normally get my work done first. A lot of times cuz like I actually focus and not one of the chatters. Speaker 4 00:07:26 <laugh> Speaker 0 00:07:27 Very good. In your opinion, what makes a good teacher? Speaker 1 00:07:32 Um, no shouting and actually asking for explan because some teachers just give out. No idea. They'd be fun. Well they need to be nice. They can't shout a lot and they should give us extra break time. Oh they need to be pretty Speaker 0 00:07:53 Pretty. So that's to go in their CV. You must be pretty to be a good teacher. Yeah. Okay. Speaker 4 00:08:03 <laugh> Speaker 1 00:08:05 Well, if they're nice enough to let you have like fun on like the last day or like on Easter or Christmas or like any of the holidays, but they're not too nice. So that like your class doesn't go wild. Speaker 4 00:08:16 <laugh> Speaker 2 00:08:19 Good teacher is someone who can make learning fun and that will care. And instead of giving out, when you make a mistake, they show you how to fix that mistake and show you how to not be able to make that mistake in the future. Speaker 4 00:08:33 Hmm. Speaker 1 00:08:34 Well, if they're nice to kids and they love the subject and they know subjects really well and well they're good at growing stuff so they can show the kids what you can do or you can't do. And you're good at stuff. Speaker 3 00:08:56 Well, probably making sure that they're like, if a children is upset, making sure they're okay. Or if somebody doesn't know what to do, put their, and this partly over them and nice person. Speaker 1 00:09:16 I feel like if she doesn't like she, and she's very calm with people instead of just yelling. But I can understand that some days, you know, teachers will be a bit mattered and some others, Speaker 0 00:09:29 Like everybody, everyone has a bad day, don't they? Yeah. So good teachers can hide that. Yeah. Yeah. What do you think makes a bad teacher? Speaker 1 00:09:39 Um, shout a lot. Um, give out about things that they don't need to be given out about and, and giving out if you don't get all your Walker off a drunk lady. Speaker 0 00:09:59 Okay. Yes. I think that's right. That's fair enough. Speaker 1 00:10:03 You shout a lot. Speaker 0 00:10:05 You're not big buddy. <laugh> and Speaker 1 00:10:10 They Speaker 0 00:10:11 Don't Speaker 1 00:10:11 Give you any golden time. If you are mean to kids and you don't like kids and you bad at falling, they shout too much. Speaker 0 00:10:22 You shout too much. Speaker 1 00:10:23 Yeah. I don't like a few teachers shouting. Speaker 0 00:10:27 And what would make a bad teacher? There's no such thing. Maybe. Maybe the no bad teachers Speaker 1 00:10:33 Maybe there is. Speaker 0 00:10:34 Do do do <laugh> Speaker 1 00:10:38 Locking their Speaker 3 00:10:39 Class in the toilet. Speaker 0 00:10:40 <laugh> has that ever happened to you? Yes. What? Goodness. You're gonna have to get your teacher and left them in the toilet. What kind of teachers do you have? Speaker 3 00:10:55 That's already happened? Speaker 0 00:10:57 Oh my goodness. You can't like your teacher, the toilet. What kind of school are you going to at all? <laugh> I dunno a fun one by the sayings of things. Yeah. Speaker 1 00:11:09 Say if you're chatting then like you won't then like you keep on chatting and chatting and the teacher tells you to stop. It's technically not the teacher's fault, but the kids should learn that they need to stop talking that that will make the teacher a bit better. Speaker 0 00:11:29 So I love that you're blaming the children for the teacher, bad teacher. <laugh> so do you think there's no such thing as a bad teacher? Just a chatty classroom. Speaker 1 00:11:42 Yeah. If, if it's a chatty classroom, she, the teacher would definitely get mad. Speaker 0 00:11:47 They have their work cut out for them. Don't they? Yeah. It's a tough gig. Speaker 3 00:11:52 Well probably being snappy and being like really in and somebody got caught on your arm and they were trying to stay at both. Like yeah, they might just say, oh, you're fine. It was just a little grade. Speaker 0 00:12:06 And it's sore. Yeah. What would make a bad teacher? Speaker 2 00:12:10 A bad teacher is someone who instead of focusing on what you're good at, they focus on what you're bad at. And instead of showing, instead of showing the class, let's say you do great in math. They'll tell you off when you're doing bad at a subject, instead of trying to help you at that subject. Speaker 0 00:12:28 That's very good point. If you got to design or create your ideal behavior teacher, what would they be like? Speaker 1 00:12:39 Um, well they would be, have to love math and love at and be very nice to kids. And do do your points Speaker 0 00:12:51 <laugh> oh, you like those? Yeah. <laugh> Speaker 1 00:12:53 And um, take away those, your points when people are being bold, Speaker 0 00:12:58 You think a good teacher has to be a little bit strict. I think you're right. I have to keep manners on the class. Yeah. Mm-hmm <affirmative> Speaker 1 00:13:06 They'd be funny. Speaker 0 00:13:08 Yes. Speaker 1 00:13:08 They'd be kind. Yes. They'd be helpful. Speaker 0 00:13:12 Okay. Speaker 1 00:13:13 They'd be strict enough so that your class wouldn't run wild. Speaker 0 00:13:18 Okay. Speaker 1 00:13:19 Um, they would let everyone have a go at like answering the questions. Speaker 0 00:13:24 Very good, very fair. Speaker 2 00:13:26 They would be a caring kind, loving person who would be able to help you no matter what the problem is. And we're able to make you want to learn cuz they make you find learning fun. Speaker 1 00:13:40 They give as much time as you need. If you don't get all your work done, you can do it. When you finished all your other work, get longer. Your time play outside. When we, you, the class finishes all the work and Doune PE and have an a, just for PE. Speaker 0 00:14:01 Do you love PE as well? Yes. Is that another favorite subject? Yeah. <laugh> very good. Speaker 1 00:14:08 They will be very calm. They will be nice. They will always say it's okay if you always make a mistake, cuz if you didn't know mistakes always make you learn stuff. So it can be very nice to just have a nice calm teacher that won't shout at you. But I can understand that they will have to shout at you sometimes. Speaker 0 00:14:32 Very rarely though. Speaker 1 00:14:34 Yeah. Yeah. Depends. If you're a chatter <laugh> that's how you get shouted at <laugh> so that's what get that's what annoys me. If people check cuz then I can't focus. Speaker 0 00:14:44 Okay. So really it's about being able to get everyone involved. So isn't it so that everyone is focused. Yeah. Because you're lucky you can focus. Some kids actually find it hard to focus and it's not their fault either. No, they need like, they need a bit of help with that. Yeah. And maybe the dream teacher would find a secret way to get everyone's attention. Speaker 1 00:15:07 It's gonna take a miracle for that to happen in our class. Speaker 4 00:15:11 <laugh> Speaker 0 00:15:13 Yeah. It's hard. It's hard. Speaker 1 00:15:15 It's hard having a school tour every day. Speaker 0 00:15:19 Wow. That would be a good teacher. Speaker 1 00:15:22 That's all. Well, you know, miss honey from Matilda. Yeah. Yeah. I like her. Okay. She would be the best teacher. Speaker 0 00:15:30 What's nice about her. Speaker 1 00:15:32 She's nice. She's pretty. She's nice, Speaker 0 00:15:36 Basically. Nice. Yeah. That's what makes a good teacher. Yeah. Your dream teacher is nice. Even if they give you homework. Speaker 1 00:15:43 Yeah. I suppose Speaker 0 00:15:45 <laugh> what would you like to be when you grow up and why? Speaker 1 00:15:49 I either want to be a hairdresser or a chef, but I like, um, hair styling be because I practice on my or doll and I would like to be a chef because I love cooking. Speaker 0 00:16:02 What kind of food would you Speaker 1 00:16:03 Cook? Cake? A teacher or a doctor. Speaker 0 00:16:07 And why? Speaker 1 00:16:09 Because doctors help people when they're in like need, um, electric build a plumber. Speaker 0 00:16:21 Why? Speaker 1 00:16:22 So I can build my own house. I'm not sure. Speaker 0 00:16:26 You've got a long time to decide. I think you'll be good at whatever you do. Speaker 1 00:16:32 Maybe Speaker 0 00:16:33 <laugh> Speaker 1 00:16:35 A teacher, Speaker 0 00:16:37 A teacher. What kind of teacher would you be? Speaker 1 00:16:39 Uh, a primary school teacher and a nice teacher. Speaker 0 00:16:43 Would you give loads of homework? Speaker 1 00:16:45 No. Okay. So there's one thing, but then I have a lot of careers. Speaker 0 00:16:51 Okay. Come Speaker 1 00:16:51 On. So my job's gonna be a scientist and then my careers are gonna be an artist, a singer and a babysitter. Speaker 0 00:17:03 Wow. You're gonna be a busy, busy lady. Why do you want to be a scientist? Speaker 1 00:17:09 Because like, I like the way that you have to pour things into other things that I'm very smart. I would actually like to be a teacher or I would like to be a cook. Speaker 0 00:17:24 Ooh. What kind of food would you cook? Speaker 1 00:17:27 Well, it's technically not cook. I'll maybe open up my own ice cream store and then I can serve ice cream. Speaker 0 00:17:32 What's your favorite? Favorite ice cream? Speaker 1 00:17:34 Uh, cookie dough. Speaker 0 00:17:35 What can I come? Yes. Can I get free ice cream? Speaker 1 00:17:39 Maybe Speaker 0 00:17:40 <laugh> how much is ice cream gonna cost? Speaker 1 00:17:44 Well, it depends. What kind of the flavor, like if you want a 99, then it would just be like a nine, like 99, but like for different flavors. I don't know exactly cuz I'm not at that age yet. Speaker 0 00:17:56 Okay. And do you know, I don't think they charge 99 for 99 anymore. How bad is that? Speaker 1 00:18:01 I know I once went to an ice cream truck at the beach. I wanted a 99 and that was three Euro. Isn't Speaker 0 00:18:07 That ridiculous. I know crazy. Speaker 2 00:18:11 I would like to be a guarder and help put wrong people in prison and help the world be a better place Speaker 1 00:18:20 I'm in between Speaker 5 00:18:21 Two things, a footballer. Speaker 0 00:18:25 Wow. There are two very different things. Speaker 3 00:18:29 A astronaut. Speaker 0 00:18:31 Wow. Why would you like to be an astronaut? Speaker 3 00:18:34 Because I can feed room. Speaker 0 00:18:39 Thank you very much for talking to me today. It's been a pleasure.
